Way Back; Unafraid

I remember.  Tonight, I was reminded and I had tears.  Tears for you, my dear, dear, Sam.

It was Sam’s last year of basketball although at the time that it was his last was not known.  It was a game against Carmel at Carmel High School.  It was one of the few games that Sam and Nick’s dad was able to attend.  Sam was so excited.  Nick sat with his dad in the stands as the game progressed.  Sam started the game and after that, I don’t remember, until after the game.  Sam came into the crowd to see his dad but he had already left; having traveled many miles to see Sam play., I know.  I remember Sam asking Nick where “dad” was.  He didn’t show disappointment with learning that his dad had already left.  It only caused me to pause perhaps.  Many pauses later, I feel now what was Sam’s last year of basketball.  It hurts.  We miss you, Sam.  We pause often. We love. Unafraid. #muchlovetosam
